SHE LOVES IT, SHE LOVES IT NOT: WOMEN AND TECHNOLOGY
She Loves It, She Loves It Not: Women and Technology was designed to serve a variety of purposes. It can be exhibited as an art installation, purchased by individuals to view on their home computer systems or it can be used as an instructional resource by colleges and universities. In both its form and content, the project demonstrates how women might use technology differently and how technology might be adapted to women╒s culture.
The project contains eighty-four screens and takes approximately one hour to view in its entirety. Because it is an interactive, nonlinear experience, viewers can choose how long to spend with it, what order in which to view it, whether to repeat or skip screens and whether or not to open buttons. The project combines aspects of an academic essay or documentary film with intuitive associations among graphics, films, texts, and sounds. It was produced using Macromind Director 3.1.
She Loves It, She Loves It Not: Women and Technology was created by Christine Tamblyn, Marjorie Franklin, and Paul Tompkins at San Francisco State University╒s Faculty Multimedia Research and Development Center in 1993.
Operating Instructions
To launch the program, double-click on the She Loves It, She Loves It Not icon. To stop viewing, press -Q on your keyboard. After the program begins, follow its instructions to interact with it. The home screen contains an image of a daisy. When you click on each petal, a screen is revealed. You will be able to navigate through these screens by using the mouse to click on the Forward and Go Back arrows. You will also be able to click movie icons to see QuickTime movies, as well as robot icons to get more information and letter icons to read letters.
System Requirements
This program requires a Mac IIci or better with at least 8 MB RAM, a color monitor, stereo speakers, and a CD-ROM player.
